What does DSIP mean?
DSIP stands for delta sleep-inducing peptide. It is a nonapeptide, meaning a chain of nine amino acids. The sequence reported by Schoenenberger and colleagues is Trp–Ala–Gly–Gly–Asp–Ala–Ser–Gly–Glu, written as WAGGDASGE in one-letter notation. Schoenenberger et al., 1978: DSIP sequence and characterisation.
The name comes from experimental work involving brain electrical activity in rabbits. It describes the compound’s research history; it is not a promise that a supplied product will induce sleep or a statement of suitability for treating a sleep problem.
Why the exact structure matters
The original study compared synthetic DSIP with fragments and altered peptides and reported differences between the alpha-aspartyl peptide and a beta-aspartyl isomer. That is a useful reminder to compare the complete material specification when reviewing an experiment, rather than relying only on a short product name. Read the primary study’s abstract.
When matching a material to a published method, record the peptide identity, chemical form and experimental endpoint. A paper’s findings apply to the material and conditions investigated by its authors. They do not establish the identity, purity or performance of a different commercial batch.
Compare DSIP 5mg and 10mg research formats
The product range offers a 5mg vial and a 10mg cartridge, with the cartridge also supplied in a complete V2 pen set. The labelled mass and the equipment included are separate purchasing decisions.
| Format | Product listing | Contents and comparison |
|---|---|---|
| 5mg research vial | DSIP 5mg research vial | One sealed, labelled vial. Review its supplied form, handling information and matching batch report. |
| 10mg refill | DSIP 10mg research cartridge | One cartridge for a compatible pen system. The reusable pen is purchased separately. |
| 10mg pen set | DSIP 10mg V2 pen set | One 10mg cartridge, one alloy V2 pen and one 20-piece needle pack. |
If you already have the compatible reusable pen, the separate cartridge listing provides the refill option. If you are comparing containers, read the vial, cartridge and pen-set guide. Current product pages determine stock availability and pack contents.
Compare mass separately from concentration. A 10mg labelled amount is twice a 5mg labelled amount. It does not establish that the contents have twice the concentration: that comparison also requires the stated volume and formulation. Neither number describes purity or an experimental outcome.
What to check in the DSIP specification
- Material identity: record the full DSIP name and sequence, together with any stated salt, counterion or formulation. Ask for clarification if a required detail is missing.
- Amount and presentation: distinguish total mass, concentration, container type and included equipment. Do not treat a vial as a replacement pen cartridge.
- Batch evidence: match the label’s lot reference to the analytical report. Note which method supports each result and whether the document reports identity, purity, content or another characteristic.
- Handling history: retain the supplier’s storage instructions, delivery date and laboratory receipt record with the batch documentation.
Use the COA-reading guide to review results and limitations, or the batch-record checklist to organise the documents. If the report library does not contain a document matching your intended DSIP purchase, request the relevant batch information.
Common DSIP purchasing questions
Is the DSIP pen set supplied with an extra cartridge?
The current DSIP V2 pen-set listing includes one 10mg cartridge, one alloy V2 pen and one 20-piece needle pack. A spare cartridge is not listed among those contents; check the current product page before ordering.
Does 10mg mean a higher purity than 5mg?
No. Milligrams describe mass. A purity result requires its own analytical measurement and reporting basis. Check the batch document rather than comparing purity from the product amount.
Can the DSIP name tell me what a batch will do?
No. The name identifies a peptide with a particular research history. Assess a material against your laboratory specification and batch evidence; do not infer a guaranteed effect from the name.
